The Institut de Physique Nucléaire in Orsay distinguished as an EPS Historic Site
The « Institut de Physique Nucléaire » (IPN) in Orsay, France, was recently added to the list of the Historic Sites of the European Physical Society. The laboratory, which recently became part of the Laboratoire Irène Joliot Curie (IJCLab), received this recognition with the following motivation: « Initiated in 1956 by Irène and Frédéric Joliot-Curie as an extension outside Paris of the renowned « Radium Institute » founded by Marie Curie, where in 1934 they had discovered artificial radioactivity, and of the « Nuclear Chemistry Laboratory » founded by Frédéric Joliot, the IPN hosted the first French big accelerator (a synchrocyclotron) which started operating in 1958.
2023 EPS Emmy Noether Distinction
The call for nominations for the EPS Emmy Noether Distinction is open all through the year.
For the 2023 distinction, the deadline for nominations is 25th January 2024.

The call for applications for the Trans-Atlantic Partnership for the joint APS-ICTP-EPS Travel Award Fellowship Programme (ATAP) is now open.
The deadline for application is 31st March 2024.
Alberta Bonanni as new president of ÖPG
Prof. Dr Alberta Bonanni was unanimously elected incoming Vice President at the General Assembly of the Autrian Physical Society (ÖPG) on 4 September 2023 in Basel. She will start her term on 1st January 2024.

Gerd Leuchs president of Optica in 2024
The membership of Optica, formerly OSA, elected Gerd Leuchs, director emeritus at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light, Germany, as the society’s Vice President in 2022.
Gerd Leuchs will take over from Michal Lipson on 1st January 2024. Congratulations!
XXIX Davydov Lectures in Theoretical Physics in Kyiv
Members of the board of the EPS Statistical and Nonlinear Physics Division will attend the conference in Kyiv.
This participation is part of the initiatives dedicated by the EPS to strengthening scientific ties with the Ukrainian physics community.
EPS Forum 2024
The full timetable for the 2024 edition of the EPS Forum is now online. Featuring presentations from three Nobel laureates, discussions on how physics can contribute to solving the challenges facing our society and presentations of the latest scientific results in photonics, quantum computing, novel applications of nuclear and particle physics, and computers inspired by the structure of the brain.
There will be round tables on how physics can help to tackle climate change and air pollution, the challenges and opportunities facing physics based start-ups and how we can inspire a future generation of physicists. Plus the inside track on how to get an ERC grant, a guide to EU research infrastructure and the EU funding landscape, networking for students, a poster session and plenty of opportunities to meet and discuss.
