The Accademia Galileiana di Scienze, Lettere e Arti becomes an EPS Historic Site

The Galilean Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts in Padua is now an EPS Historic Site, in honour of Galileo Galilei.

The plaque unveiling ceremony took place on 18th January 2025, conducted by the President of the European Physical Society (EPS), Prof. Mairi Sakellariadou, and the President of the Academy, Prof. Giovanna Zaniolo, during the annual academic Galilean Day, in the presence of the academicians and of the public.

Gražina Tautvaišienė: An interview

Professor Tautvaišienė works as an astrophysicist at the Vilnius University (VU) and is also vice-president of the International Union of Astronomy since December 2024.

2024 EPS NPD Lise Meitner Prize announced

The Nuclear Physics Divison of the EPS is happy to announce the 2024 EPS Lise Meitner Prize has been awarded to Professor Dr. Muhsin Harakeh and Professor Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Achim Richter.

2025 EPS PPD Hannes Alfvén Prize goes to Michel Koenig

The 2025 EPS Hannes Alfvén Prize has been awarded to Michel Koenig (LULI, France) for outstanding and continuous contributions to the experimental study of laser-plasma interactions in the fields of laboratory astrophysics, of high-energy density physics, and of inertial confinement fusion.

2025 ESPD Prizes: Call for nominations

The European Solar Physics Division (ESPD) of the European Physical Society awards several prizes every year in recognition of the scientific excellence of solar physicists from European institutions and their service to the community.

The deadline for nominations is 4th March 2025.

2025 EPS QEOD Prizes: Call for nominations still open

This is a reminder to let you know you can still submit a nomination for the 2025 EPS QEOD Prizes.

The prizes will be awarded during the CLEO Europe©/EQEC conference in Munich in June 2025.

The deadline is 31st March 2025.

2025 EPS Central Prizes

The following prizes are still open for nominations: 
- EPS Early Career Award 
- EPS Gero Thomas Medal 
- EPS Fellows
- EPS Emmy Noether Distinction

The EPS encourages nominations from the entire community, especially for members of underrepresented groups and which reflect the geographical diversity of the Society.

The deadine for nominations is 31st March 2025.

The CLEO®/Europe-EQEC 2025 post-deadline paper submission system is open. 

The deadline for submission is 14th April 2025.

Report on IYQ2025

The inauguration of the International year of Quantum Science and Technologies was held at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris on 4th and 5th February 2025. The European Physical Society is a partner to this international year.

NPA-XII call for bids

The board of the Nuclear Physics Division (NPD) of the European Physical Society (EPS) is seeking candidates to host the 2026 edition of the Conference on Nuclear Physics in Astrophysics (NPA-XII 2026).

EPS NPD: Call for two elected members

Nomination is open for 2 (two) new ordinary board members of the EPS Nuclear Physics Division (EPS-NPD).

Result on survey on conference expectations

A thorough understanding of attendees and their specific needs is crucial for designing conferences that are both relevant and effective.

Thus, in summer 2024, Ariane Wenger, from ETH Zurich,  conducted a survey on researchers’ perceptions of and expectations towards scientific conferences. The survey was also distributed to the European Physical Society, and you might have participated in it (see previous article).

The conference will be held in Granada, Spain from 1st-5th September 2025.

The 26th International Conference on Laser Spectroscopy will be held in La Biodola, Elba Island, from 2nd-7th June 2025.

The 29th Central Europe Workshop on Quantum Optics  to be held on 23-27 June 2025 in Vilnius, Lithuania.
