Historic physics building at the University of Graz receives EPS Historic Site distinction
On 7th June 2024, the building housing the Institute of Physics of the University of Graz was honoured with the distinction of "EPS Historic Site", an award of great importance for achievements in physics and research. The ceremony took place in the 180th year of the birth of Ludwig Boltzmann who carried out research in this institute.
Antigone Marino is the new editor of EPN
Antigone Marino is a former chair of the EPS Young Minds and a physicist at the National Research Council of Naples, Italy, where she studies optics and photonics.
In 2024, she started to work as editor of the EPS magazine Europhysics News, taking over from Els De Wolf.

The 2024 EPS Europhysics Prize is announced!
The Condensed Matter Division of the European Physical Society (EPS CMD) is proud to announce the award of the 2024 EPS Europhysics Prize to:
- Professor Andrea Cavalleri
“for his pioneering studies of photo-induced emergent phases of quantum materials: from enhanced superconductivity to the control of materials topology”.
EPS Energy Group meeting: Gazing on nuclear fusion future
On 14th-15th May 2024, the Energy Group (EG) of the European Physical Society met in Cadarache (France) for its annual meeting.
This year, the event took place at the Cadarache Château just next to the chantier of the largest nuclear fusion experiment under construction: the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER).

ICO Prize 2024: Deadline extended
ICO established in 1982 the ICO Prize, to be given each year to an individual who has made a noteworthy contribution to optics, published or submitted for publication before the age of 40.
The deadline for submission is extended to 15th July 2024.

The EPS Forum 2024 held at Freie Universität Berlin
On 25th and 26th March, the EPS organised its second Forum at the Henry Ford Building of Freie Universität Berlin in Germany.
Prepared for more than a year, the EPS Forum welcomed 405 registered participants looked after by 8 EPS staff members and 9 student helpers.
IYQ2025
The United Nations declared 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology.
This year-long, worldwide initiative will celebrate the contributions of quantum science to technological progress over the past century, raise global awareness of its importance to sustainable development in the 21st century, and ensure that all nations have access to quantum education and opportunities.
