Luisa Cifarelli awarded the EPS Gero Thomas Medal 2021

On 12th November 2021 in the course of the Laura Bassi Forum, an event held to commemorate Bologna's famous 18th century female physicist, EPS vice-president Petra Rudolf handed over the EPS Gero Thomas Medal 2021 to Luisa Cifarelli.

Call for nominations for the EPS Early Career Prizes 2022

The call is open for the Early Career Prizes of the European Physical Society.

ESRF appoints two new Directors of Research

Gema Martínez-Criado and Annalisa Pastore have been appointed new ESRF directors of research. Martínez-Criado will cover Condensed Matter and Physical and Material Sciences and Pastore Life Sciences, Chemistry and Soft Matter Science.

Gerd Leuchs elected at Optica

Congratulations to Gerd Leuchs, director emeritus at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Light, Germany, who has been elected as the 2022 Vice President of Optica (formerly OSA). Leuchs will serve as an officer on the Optica Board of Directors for four years, including a term as the society’s president in 2024.

BASE breaks new ground in matter–antimatter comparisons

In a paper published on 5th January 2022 in the journal Nature, the BASE collaboration at CERN reports the most precise comparison yet between protons and antiprotons, the antimatter counterparts of protons.

The EPS Forum

The European Physical Society (EPS) joins forces with its 42 Member Societies, 18 Divisions and Groups and 40 Associate Members to organise the first edition of the EPS FORUM that will take place on-site at Sorbonne University, Paris, from 2nd-4th June 2022.
